The_Best_Of_New_York_Fashion_Week_February_2011

From camel, fur, and gray, to the classic black and white or the epic Sixties and Seventies, the fashion trends for Autumn/Winter 2011 have been set at New York Fashion Week 2011.

Let’s see what’s hot for this season and what have designers been up to in order to promote their Fall A/W 2011.

Moncler’s Flashmob at Grand Central Station NYC

As a starter, Moncler’s attempt to launch their collection through a flashmob at Grand Central Station in New York on the sounds of Barbara Streisand left us speechless. Cool initiative!

But speaking about collections that left us completely speechless:

Narciso Rodrigues RTW Fall 2011

Narciso Rodrigues RTW Fall 2011

Narciso Rodrigues’ collection focused on neutral combinations to create a graphic, architectural, even geometric effect. It looked like his models were somehow taken directly from a sketch.

I like the way he explored the classic look into simple but clean and chic outfits. The main focus is put on black, white and gray pieces, each with a rectangle, a trapezoid or a square patch.

Rodarte on the Prairie

Rodarte on the Prairie

The sisters from Rodarte took as a source of inspiration the American plains to create a dreamy, rather summery collection. The piece of resistance was the long silky gowns with prints of the wheat and sky in different colours, reflecting the way the light is seen during the day in wheat fields.

The floral touch, the warm colours of honey and the cozy materials used, such as wool, remind of the Wizard of Oz.

Herve Leger’s collection is described as glamazon, bringing back to light the warrior dresses that is most representative of their label. The main focus was on nude, black, and silver dresses completed by a little bit of fur, and a lot of leather, from jackets to long boots.

Carolina Herrera’s collection isn’t very pretentious, but it’s classy and elegant instead. Add a little bit of drama to the picture, and you’ll get a chic woman. Where the dresses got too simple, she inserted some fur accents to complete a day outfit into a night one.

Luxury and sophistication combine in a vintage way in Badgley Mischka’s Ready to wear collection. The women of Mark Badgley and James Mischka are all divas taken directly from the movies like Dark Victory, The Woman and All about Eve. Perfectly suitable for fancy parties and events.

Vera Wang RTW Fall 2011

Vera Wang RTW Fall 2011

Vera Wang’s collection does not insist on bringing a lot of colours to life, but it certainly makes a point. She uses delicate materials and tries somehow to feminize the traditional casual outfits with other alternatives. Her concept of diversity stands out from the collections of this year.

Anyway, there’s a lot going on for this year’s fall, and a lot designers that standed out from the crowd. Which one do you like best? Or maybe the right question is: which one’s clothes do you find the most wearable?

As London Fashion Week is going on right now, stay tuned because we’ll be seeing a few trends from there too.
