Multiple-award winning movie The King’s Speech brings  series of vintage 30s and 40s inspired outfits that look great on the feminine characters: Helena Bonham Carter who portrays Queen Elizabeth and Eve Best who plays the role of Wallis Simpson.

Carter’s displays some elegant and chic outfits which for once make her look like the good character, and not the evil, dark one, as we’re used to see her in Harry Potter or Alice in Wonderland. Her look in the movie consists of coats in neutral tones with fur accents, leather gloves, elegant hats, and pearls.

One of the best outfits in the movies is worn when Queen Elizabeth drinks tea at doctor Logue’s house. I really love her tea dress that matches perfectly the pearls, the faux-fur trim and the vintage caramel leather gloves, all completed in beige colors.

A similar combination, but in dark brown colors, with a more complicated and elegant head wear is the one worn when Queen Elizabeth seeks the services of doctor Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Although at first she’s taken as a normal citizen by the doctor, her posture and way of wearing the outfit gives her a royal air.

The navy blue dress from King Edward’s (Guy Pearce) cocktail party matches her style perfectly. She goes for something more colourful but still keeps her elegance even if placed in a somehow non-formal set. The fur from the shoulder and sleeves and the pearls give her a pretentious look.

Eve Best’s aubergine dress from the same cocktail party is incredibly gorgeous. I love the detail with the diamond on the waist, and also the back of the dress is a bit extravagant for the era. But the outfit completed by the Van Cleef & Arpel’s diamond zip necklace reveals itself in a timeless manner. Consider the outfit as a classic, wearable even today.

Do you consider The King’s Speech fashion as chic? Are you a fan of the 30s? Which outfit do you like best? But more importantly: would you go for this kind of vintage?
