Currently in progress, the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival is being held from May 11 to May 22. And while movie enthusiasts from all around the world are mainly focusing on reviews, awards and screenings, fashion lovers have their fair share of excitement, as celebrities hit the red carpet with gorgeous designer dresses and accessories, ready to conquer both the audience and fashion critics everywhere.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Uma Thurman, Angelina Jolie and Penelope Cruz are only a few of the actresses who looked amazing on the red carpet so far.

Day 1 Highlights: Elodie Bouchez, Rachel McAdams and Uma Thurman

On the first day of the film festival, actress Elodie Bouchez looked stunning in a gorgeous YSL Pre-Fall 2011 floor-length black dress, with silver and gold Art Deco embroidered details. Uma Thurman also made a good impression wearing a white Versace Fall 2011 gown. The dress worked great with Jimmy Choo strappy sandals, and the jury member completed the look with a perfect, elegant updo.  Finally, let’s not forget Rachel McAdams. She wore a sensational red Marchesa Fall 2011 gown. The young actress pulled off a romantic and kind of retro look, with her wavy curled-hair and adorable smile.

Day 2 Highlights: Tilda Swinton, Emily Browning and Jane Fonda

On the second day, Tilda Swinton looked surprisingly good, in an unexpectedly glamorous Haider Ackermann custom-made dress. Her sculptural gown was interesting, to say the least, and the color went perfectly with Swinton’s skin tone. Emily Browning also looked good on the red carpet in a Valentino embroidered gown. With her smokey-eyed make-up and the vintage-inspired beige lace she was pretty sexy, but also elegant, in order to fit in with the crowd. And Jane Fonda… Well, I admit it’s pretty hard to believe she is 73 years old. Fonda looked amazing, wearing a long sleeved Emilio Pucci gown and a gold clutch. May all the teenage pop stars admire her elegance, modesty and sense of style. Maybe they will learn something. If only.

Day 3 Highlights: Sarah Jessica Parker and Cheryl Cole

On day three, Sarah Jessica Parker made an appearance. Enough said. I don’t know what her secret is, but she always manages to dazzle everyone when appearing on the red carpet. First, the actress  attended the Weinstein Company’s VIP press event in a stunning spring/summer 2011 Dolce & Gabbana maxi dress. Like that wasn’t enough, she also attended the “Wu Xia” premiere later, wearing an Elie Saab Fall 2011 gown and spectacular diamond earrings. Gorgeously played, to say the least. Also, Cheryl Cole looked pretty good at the screening of “Habemus Papam” in a dramatic white Stéphane Rolland gown with gold accessories. But, mostly, let’s focus on SJP. I mean, the woman deserves it.

Day 4 Highlights: Penelope Cruz and Uma Thurman

Day four marked the 2011 Cannes Film Festival “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” premiere. Consequently, we saw a lot of Penelope Cruz. She wore a Stella McCartney Fall 2011 at the photocall, which made her look absolutely amazing. Just when everyone thought she can’t possibly do better, she showed up at the premiere wearing a lilac Marchesa gown and Chopard jewels. With Johnny Depp. I seriously believe this was the first time I was looking at a photo with Johnny Depp in it and barely noticing him. The dress is simply breath-taking, don’t you agree? At the same premiere, Uma Thurman wore a Chanel Fall 2008 Couture gown.

Day 5 Highlights: Elizabeth Olsen and Fan Bing Bing

On day five, I have to admit I particularly liked Elizabeth Olsen, the stylish younger sister of  Mary-Kate and Ashley. She chose a pretty, embroidered design from her older siblings’ fashion range, The Row, to attend a photocall. Overall, she looked pretty relaxed, chic and… well, happy. For the premiere of “Martha Marcy May Marlene”, the youngest Olsen sister opted for a black ensemble from the same collection. Although I think I would have liked her more in a colorful dress, she made it work.   Also, Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing chose a beautiful, lilac creation by Atelier Versace to wear at “The Artist” premiere. She completed the look with a Versace clutch and Cartier jewels.

Day 6 Highlights: Angelina Jolie and Zoe Saldana

Finally, we have day six, when a leggy Angelina Jolie looked gorgeous wearing a chocolate brown silk Atelier Versace gown at “The Tree Of Life” premiere. She accessorized with Ferragamo shoes and chose to wear her hair loose around her shoulders. At the same premiere, the beautiful Zoe Saldana wore a Giorgio Armani long bustier-style gown, looking like a delicious candy cane. The red-white contrast really worked for her. Kudos.
