After leaving French Vogue the same way she entered the fashion editorial, by approving a photo shoot of a ten year old, Carine Roitfeld reveals one of her current projects with Barneys. She’ll be the guest editor, muse, and stylist for a multifaceted Fall 2011 initiative.

It’s a new kind of project for me,” Roitfeld said.” It’s good to have a new life, because now I can do projects that I never dreamed of before. For me, Barneys has always been the biggest name in luxury department stores, so to be able to participate in this project with them, and be visible during the next fashion week in New York, is my dream come true. To a French girl, it’s a big, big dream.

The collaboration with Barneys New York includes a set of images for their fall 2011 campaign, two videos  and styling the retailer’s Madison Avenue windows, to be unveiled in September. The videos, seen through Mario Sorrenti’s lens, make you want to go to Paris and experience Carine’s world of fashion. Aside from catching a glimpse of Paris from her own apartment, you get to learn a few tips from the former editor-in-chief of one of the most powerful fashion magazines in the world.

People are more important than the clothes. Clothes… it could be just like a nice envelope. But it’s more important, the letter inside the envelope than the envelope.” She also notes: “I’ve never been an assistant. You don’t climb the stairs, you go down. Because when you go to a fashion show, the best walk is the first walk.
