Known for directing music videos for many bands and also for his full feature efforts (‘Being John Malkovich’, ‘Adaptation’ and ‘Where the Wild Things Are’), Spike Jonze is an old collaborator of the Beastie Boys . This time Jonze has put his mark on the hip hop trio’s epic short called ‘Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win’. This 11 minutes-long adventure featuring plastic action figures is the sixth video of the band that he directs.
The song is a single taken off their eight studio album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, released a few months ago after a two years delay. ‘Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win’ also features hip hop singer Santigold, who’s collaborated in the past with artists such as David Byrne, Fatboy Slim, Jay-Z and Kanye West.
As you can see in the video, it can legitimately be said that MCA, Mike D and Ad-Rock performed all their own stunts in this shooting. And since the Beastie Boys have been cool since forever, here’s a look back on a couple of their other videos directed by Jonze:
