Gym Membership

If you’re thinking of improving your lifestyle and being more fit and healthy, a gym membership is probably an essential. Going to the gym provides us with a great way to exercise in a range of different ways, whether that be running, climbing, cycling, lifting weights, yoga, or swimming. However, going to the gym isn’t cheap, and you could be forking out £50 a month in membership fees. If you’re trying to increase the amount of physical activity that you do but don’t think you’ll be able to afford to become a member of your local gym, we’ve listed some great ways in which you can save money.

Pay Upfront

Many gyms will give you the option to get your membership for less if you pay the total fee upfront. Rather than paying monthly for your membership, you will pay for a certain amount of months at once. Although you’ll end up spending a larger amount of money all at once than you would if you were spreading the cost, it can often work out a lot cheaper in the long run to do it this way. Student Discounts

Although this one won’t work for everybody, if you are at college or university, you might be able to save on a gym membership simply by showing evidence that you are studying. Many gyms will offer discounted rates to students, and you could save up to 20-30% of a regular, adult membership if you take advantage of this. Or, if you’re at university, there may be a gym on campus which you can use free of charge.

Cheap and Cheerful

If you want to join a gym which has a huge range of different things available, you should expect to pay more. However, if all you need a gym membership for is to exercise and don’t really mind whether or not there’s a pool and sauna, for example, you’ll be glad to hear that there are plenty of basic, budget gyms available to join. Although these gyms don’t have any fancy extras, they definitely provide you with everything that you need to stay fit.

Off-Peak Memberships

Many gyms will have ‘peak’ and ‘off-peak’ times of the day, with peak times being when there are the most users in the gym. Getting a gym membership which allows you to use the gym during peak time is almost always the more expensive option to go for. Choosing an off-peak membership, which usually gives you access to the gym in the afternoon/evenings and weekends, is often a great way to save money as these types of memberships are usually cheaper since you are restricted when it comes to the times that you can use the gym.

Gym memberships can be expensive, but there are many ways to save money and still go to the gym. From considering budget gyms to getting an off-peak membership or even paying upfront, there are plenty of ways to drive down the cost of staying fit.
