Barbaros Cangürgel is a twenty year old student living in Turkey, ?zmir. Studying Cinema at the Department of Fine Arts in Dokuz Eylül University, he doesn’t perceive himself as a photographer, but rather as a visual artist. Experimenting with photography since he was sixteen years old, Barbaros has developed a contemplative style, a show of dashed colors and different textures, in which he tries to pin a meaning. Calling his works “digital images” or “visual data” rather than photographs, the artist’s work seems natural, transmitting a feeling a total serenity. The fact that he prefers film photography to digital photography give even more authenticity to his works. He captures instantaneous bizarre feelings, sometimes feelings of depression or anxiety. Inspired by poetry, literature and cinema,  and French writer Jean Baudrillard’s theory of simulation, the artist’s interests span over topics like plant sociology and anatomy.

Mostly interested in the visual arts, the artist also experiments with video projects. You can watch his latest video project titled “Anxiety“.
