Photography

Whilst photographers in Winnipeg may be in the dozens, but not everyone with a camera is a professional or knows how to toy with it. There are a lot of things that need to be taken care of for one to be able to click a memorable shot. It’s not just fitting the lens and pressing the click button, a lot goes into clicking good photos.

As a photographer, there is no limit to your education and the quality of your picture is only restricted by the effort you put in. The more distance you’re willing to cover in terms of effort, the better results you’ll see. Simply attaching watermarks to your photos does not make you a good photographer and neither does buying an expensive camera for that matter.

If you want to improve your photography skills and are looking for ways to increase your know-how on taking really great photos then you should consider the following deciding factors which can mean the difference between eye-catching photos or dull and forgettable ones:

1. Information

As a photographer, you need to know exactly what kind of equipment you are using. You should also know what kind of lens is suitable at what stage of the process, and what the complete specifications and capabilities of your camera are.

If you have the correct and complete information, regarding what cameras and lenses you need to use and where to use. Or how you can improvise with the limited equipment that you have by combining different pieces together to take the best shot.

2. Distance From Object

The distance present between you and the object you are capturing is of the essence. The distance governs how you want take photos and how you should use your camera.

Distance also matters when selecting the correct lens for the shot. The focal length of the lens needs to be changed according to the distance of the object especially, when capturing action shots.

3. Lighting

Shooting and capturing pictures in sunlight is comparatively easier compared to taking photos at night. Because of the presence of light, pictures turn out clearer brighter and more natural-looking. However, care needs to be given since highlights as well as the blocked shadows can get blown out of proportion in excess light, effectively ruining the entire shot.

The ISO, white balance and illumination settings are important aspects of environment lighting and play a vital role in differentiating between good pictures and bad.

4. Angle

A professional photographer has the ability to take a good shot even using a a poor or mediocre camera than an amateur photographer taking photos with Canon’s latest contraption. This largely owes to the positioning and angle of the picture.

For instance You should know where the light would look best and which position will give better detail of the object. If these points are crossed out, you can be a good photographer perhaps relying on hopes and dreams. Without the correct angles and lighting, your pictures are worthless.

5. Photoshopping

Each and every photographer, videographer and cinematographer needs to have a certain amount of photoshopping skills. Almost 40% of the magic in the shot is created on the editing table and unless you are well versed in the art of photoshopping, you should forget about opening a commercial photography venture any time soon.

Learn photoshopping even if it is not part of your Modus Operandi. Clients will certainly appreciate it if you make them look more attractive and presentable in photos than they actually are.
